INSTALL Chicago Trains Quality Floorcovering Professionals

Chicago, IL - The rollout of the new INSTALL (International Standards and Training Alliance) program marks the beginning of a new era for floorcovering in Chicago and the surrounding areas.

Representatives from the Chicago & Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters and members of the Professional Flooring Installers Association (PFIA) attended the event presented by INSTALL International Director, Jim Schmid, and RHINO Tactics President, Mary Shafer. An open-forum discussion followed the formal presentations. Members of PFIA overwhelmingly accepted the INSTALL program.

INSTALL is the new brand name for the floorcovering training program of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC). INSTALL Chicago is the name now given to the Floorcovering Local Union #1185 Apprentice Program. All INSTALL flooring mechanics are trained in an exhaustive, multi-year program at one of the UBC official instruction centers.

Due to their intensive training programs, INSTALL members are well-versed in all aspects of floorcovering. Flooring installation is a multi-faceted craft that requires years of training and the opportunity to work alongside seasoned mechanics to turn a novice into a professional. INSTALL is the only qualified professional organization that has the resources to provide this type of in-depth training for its members. Graduates of this training are consistently called upon by contractors to provide professional, dependable floorcovering services.

"Our goal is to have architects, designers, builders, general contractors, and manufacturers spec INSTALL language into their contracts for floorcovering installation in both new construction and replacement projects," says Keith Jutkins, Local Coordinator for INSTALL Chicago.

Plans to advertise INSTALL Chicago in local magazines, such as Crain Chicago and Architectural Digest, are currently being considered, as is the possibility of airing commercials during local television home shows. INSTALL stickers are already being used by contractors and flooring installers on delivery trucks, toolboxes, personal vehicles, and at business locations.

Information about INSTALL Chicago can also be found at the Local #1185 website, http://www.chicagofloorcovering.com.

The Chicago chapter of INSTALL is led by Local Coordinator Keith Jutkins. Administrative support is provided by Bill Broadhead, Stephen P. Brysch, and Steve Lange.
